About
We seek to create original murals in neighborhoods and areas with less access to public art, using the practice of muralism to raise issues important to those neighborhoods with a focus on lifting up the voices of communities who are most disenfranchised or underrepresented by centering their stories, history and culture, and concerns or solutions.
With over three decades of experience, Joe Galarza, an internationally renowned Chicano Indigenous artist, musician and educator, has created large scale public art projects with organizations and public funding in all over Los Angeles, including Homeboy Art Academy, the Armory Center for the Arts, the Boyle Heights Art Conservatory, Self Help Graphics, Barrio Action, and Indigenous Education Now, as well as the city of Los Angeles and the counties of Ventura and Los Angeles. He works with incarcerated youth, providing art skills as an alternative to juvenile delinquency. Jennaya Dunlap is a visual artist, muralist and sculptor who uses art as a tool to highlight social issues. She has an extensive background in administrative work and project management through nearly two decades of nonprofit experience.
Both of us have also been involved in community organizing and social justice work in Los Angeles city and beyond. Jennaya brings decades of experience working with undocumented immigrant communities in the region, providing support for people impacted by immigration detention and surveillance, providing workshops and trainings, as well as direct rapid response and humanitarian and legal support. Joe has been supporting Native struggles for land defense for decades, as well as community work around police brutality, incarceration and immigrant rights, including using his art to document and preserve Native oral traditions, history and culture. Our art has always been deeply connected to our social justice work, as we seek to raise awareness, ask questions, and involve the community in finding answers collectively to the issues we are addressing.
